My 75gal Betta Pond is overflowing in duckweed and Banana Plant. Instead of throwing out the trimmings and excess I thought Id offer them for any other aquarium enthusiast out there.
This Duckweed is from a tank raised strain Ive had for years. Propagates readily and tolerates flow. Its super hardy and does well in room temperature water and mid- bright light. 5 bucks gets you a small 1 Oz cup which is enough to cover the entire top of a 1gal cube. You dont need much to get the results you want.
My Banana plant is about a year old and is putting out HUGE lily pads. You cant see them rn thanks to the Duckweed but they propagate through stem cutting and floating until another ball of bananas forms and then it will root itself. 5$ gets you one of the copious amount of stems this bad boy has. They like bright light and they get quite big. This one has quickly over taken this tank and they would be perfect for any pond or larger set up.
I also have Guppy Grass out the wazoo! If you dont know what this stuff is, its a hardy fern like plant that starts off floating, but then will put thin roots and eventually attach itself to the substrate. Creates a cool "forest and clouds" type affect that doubles as a spawning substrate for fish and shrimp. 5$ gets out a good 1 Oz sized cup stuffed full. Enough to start you off!
I also sent a picture of the cups you will receive your plants in except stems which will be given in a baggie. This tank has snails, shrimp and scuds so I recommend rinsing your new plants in a separate bucket of aquariums safe water before putting them in their new home! Otherwise you may get some stowaways, but its nothing to worry about. They wont harm your tank but may be a pest if you are picky. Rinsing prevents that amd you can use a strainer for the Duckweed.
Thanks for checking out my aquarium waste! I will update the post with moss as I get enough to sell off. All of these plants have been lovingly raise by our Pond mascot, Prettyboi 🐠
